Introduction to Counseling at CBC

At CBC, we work hard to encourage and foster a culture of discipleship. This allows believers the opportunity to regularly care for one another, to pray for one another, to speak the truth in love and to apply the Word of God to our lives. We recognize that still at times because of sin and brokenness there is the need for more formal, structured opportunities for believers to receive biblical counsel. Therefore, we provide caring, competent, Christ-centered, biblical counseling as a ministry of the church. Counseling is provided by members who are recognized as being especially gifted to help others sort through difficult circumstances and problems.

The Nature of Counseling at CBC

The type of counseling we provide at CBC is referred to as biblical counseling. We believe the Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of God that provides guidance and direction for bringing honor and glory to God with our lives. All counselors are members of CBC who rely upon the wisdom of God’s Word and His Spirit as they seek to provide competent, Christ-centered counsel. All biblical counselors that serve at CBC have gone through a training process and serve under the guidance and direction of Pastor Chad, who oversees the biblical counseling ministry. Information shared in counseling remains strictly confidential and any limits to confidentiality are discussed at the outset of counseling.

Partnership with Shalom Christian Counseling

Cornerstone partners with Shalom Christian Counseling Associates. Shalom is a non-profit counseling ministry that provides biblical, Christ-centered counseling and education in the Piedmont Triad community. There is a tight connection between Cornerstone and Shalom as Pastor Chad serves as the Executive Director for Shalom. He holds a PhD in Psychology and Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and is licensed as a professional counselor in North Carolina (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC).

All Shalom counselors are believers who are competent in providing excellent, Christ-centered counseling from a biblical worldview. Non-members seeking counseling are often referred to Shalom. Counseling Limitations

CBC biblical counselors recognize their limitations. At times this may mean referral to a physician, consultation and supervision with Pastor Chad who oversees the counseling ministry, and at times referral to a professional Christian counselor in the community committed to biblical, Christ-centered counseling. While depending on the Lord for guidance and wisdom, we also seek to recognize and refer when a situation requires more time or training than what we are able to provide. CBC counselors primarily serve members. There may be times and situations where non-members are able to receive counseling through CBC.
